UGC for Brands: How to Brief, Review and Use Creator Content

A good UGC program is a repeatable creative system. Brands get better output when the brief explains the customer problem, the product truth, the desired format, the mandatory details, and the usage plan without over-scripting every gesture.

01

Start with the job of the asset

Decide whether the creative is for organic social, paid media, a landing page, an ecommerce listing, email, or a broader library. The same raw idea can be edited differently depending on where it will appear.

02

Give creators useful constraints

Include the target viewer, product truth, prohibited claims, required demonstrations, key messages, visual requirements, CTA, duration, aspect ratio, deadlines, and usage terms. Leave enough room for the creator to make the delivery sound human.

03

Review concepts before expensive reshoots

For scripted or complex work, approving an outline or script can prevent avoidable revisions. Agree in advance on what counts as a revision versus a new concept.

04

Build a testing loop

Instead of asking one video to answer every question, test controlled variations: different hooks, demonstrations, proof points, pacing, CTAs, and creator angles. Document what changed so performance feedback can inform the next brief.
